Spring Arts Program

Our spring arts program was a great success! The kids danced and sang and had a lot of fun - even though for some, it was a little hard to tell...

Meal Worms!

To continue our study of invertebrates, the students each received a meal worm as a little "pet." The kids are keeping these "worms" in a film canister in their desks and observing them every day. Meal worms are actually just the larval stage of a common insect. A few of the larvae have already turned into their pupal stage and we will have adults soon!

In some countries, insects are commonly eaten. So I bought some freeze-dried, taco-flavored meal worm snacks for the kids to try. Every student tried one and some even wanted seconds!

Snowshoeing

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  We are so lucky to have such beautiful woods right by our school!

As the mercury climbed up into the twenties today,  we were able to do some exploring on snowshoes. The school owns a class set of snowshoes that we try to use on the years when we have enough snow.  There is definitely enough snow this year!  The kids had a blast walking through the woods on top of the snow.  I spent most of the time trying to get kids untangled - some with more success than others.
